Watson & Langer preview Senior Open at "CarNasty"

Thursday, July 21 2016 by SNTV
  • Golfing legends and old rivals Tom Watson & Bernhard Langer reflected on the challenges they will face at the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie, Scotland, which starts on Thursday (21st July).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Tom Watson, Aiming for record fourth Senior Open title (on challenges of Carnoustie course):

"Well you have to drive the ball well here, you have to put the ball in play and keep it out of the bunkers. As they said last week at the Open, you have to keep it out of the bunkers. Carnoustie forces you to drive the ball, there are several holes where you have to take a driver and thread the needle through some bunkers."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Tom Watson, Aiming for record fourth Senior Open title (on his current form):

"Well right now it's questionable. I'm on the upswing, I was trying something a little bit different with my golf swing and it didn't seem to work, so yesterday I kind of changed back to my old style. I am hitting some decent shots today so I am happy about that. The putting is the most important thing right now. If I am going to win a tournament I am going to have to putt well, and I haven't had a good putting tournament this year, so that's in the back of my mind, I'd better get the flat stick working this week."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Bernhard Langer, Seven-time senior Major champion:

"It's great, it's a very tough Championship golf course here at Carnoustie. It's got a nickname as 'Carnasty' so it's extremely tough. And this year they had a lot of rain so the rough is really up. I played yesterday and it's as tough as I've seen it."
