  • American teenager Taylor Fritz was among the winners on Monday (18th July) as the main draw action at the Citi Open got underway in Washington D.C.

The threat of thunderstorms delayed the start of Daniel Evans' meeting with Benjamin Becker in the first round of the Citi Open in Washington D.C.

But once on court, the Briton cruised to a lightning-fast victory against the German.

The world number 82 broke Becker's serve four times on the way to a 6-2, 6-1 success in just 49 minutes. He now faces 12th seed Grigor Dimitrov.

There was a first-ever meeting between Denis Kudla and John Millman

And the latter edged the opener 7-5.

But the Australian powered away in the second, defeating the Kiev-born American 7-5, 6-0 to set up a second round clash with 15th seed Marcos Baghdatis.

Taylor Fritz's serve proved the decisive factor in his first-round clash with Dudi Sela.

Six aces and no double faults for the 18-year-old American.

The Israeli managed not a single ace while shipping four double faults - the last handing the match to Fritz.

6-4, 6-3 the scoreline with Fritz now facing another exciting teenager, Germany's seventh seed Alex Zverev
