Bayliss looks ahead to second Test at Old Trafford

Tuesday, July 19 2016 by SNTV
  • England head coach Trevor Bayliss reflected on England's disappointing 75-run defeat in the first Test against Pakistan at Lord's and looked ahead to the second Test at Old Trafford starting on Friday.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Trevor Bayliss, England coach (on the England performance in the first Test and bouncing back for the second Test at Old Trafford on Friday):
"Yeah, look, I think the disappointment shown on the faces of the boys in the changing room there now says a lot. I'm sure they will be determined to come out in the next Test and get that right. They certainly know the mistakes they have made. Obviously, putting it into practice under pressure in a Test match can sometimes be difficult. And you do make mistakes, but I'm hopeful that these guys can be quick learners and come out in the second Test and play them (Pakistan) a lot better."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Trevor Bayliss, England head coach (on England's quartet of all-rounders - Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid and whether they could all get into the same side):
"Yeah, it does (provide a lot of options)... basically, we want to pick our five or six best batters and our five best bowlers, if we can. If one or two of those turn out to be an all-rounder, well then that's all the better. But certainly, all of those guys have all played for England and done well over the last 12 months now, so at some stage we might see them all in the team."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Trevor Bayliss, England head coach (on England's spin prospects for the second Test at Old Trafford):
"Look, I've always had the thought of playing two spinners at some stage, whether it's the next game or not, I'm not exactly sure how Old Trafford is in the longer-form game, but certainly we saw they (Pakistan) have got three left-arm pace bowlers, which created rough outside the off stump for Moeen (Ali), so looking ahead, if we did happen to have two spinners, they could both play an important part for us."
