  • Thailand's 2013 world champion Ratchanok Intanon expressed her happiness on Monday (18th July) after being cleared of doping by the Badminton World Federation.

Thailand star Ratchanok Intanon has been cleared of doping by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and will be allowed to participate in the forthcoming Olympic Games.

In a statement released on Monday, the BWF lifted its provisional ban on Ratchanok, clearing the way for the 2013 women's singles world champion to compete in Rio.

At a news conference in Bangkok, Ratchanok briefly broke down in tears then flashed a shy smile while addressing reporters.

"I am happy that I have received justice. It's my duty now to pay attention to my training, to win the gold medal for the Thai people. I thought I had lost my chance to do so. Now that I have been given this opportunity, I will do my best."

Ratchanok had been suspended after reportedly failing a doping test given on May 15th of this year at the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Kunshan, China.

The reigning Asian Games champion, now regarded as a national heroine after becoming the first Thai to be ranked number one in the world in women's singles in April, said she will resume training Tuesday.
