Mirza feeling postive about India's chances at Rio 2016

Monday, July 18 2016 by SNTV
  • At a book launch in Mumbai on Sunday (17th July), India's Sania Mirza spoke about her women's doubles partner for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Prarthana Thombre, who turns 22 on Monday (18th July).

SOUNDBITE (Hindi and English) Sania Mirza, Indian tennis player: (On her women's doubles partner for the 2016 Rio Olympics Prarthana Thombre).

"I think me and Prarthana (Thombre) are the first such pairing we've had like at the (2014) Asian Games where we won the (bronze) medal in women's doubles. But besides that, she is a young girl, she is 21 years old. As we know, there is not a lot of young and upcoming girls happening in India or in the sub-continent right now or for the last few years, so she is a very good prospect for us and I feel it will be a great experience for her, She comes from Barshi, and she's played for the Sania Mirza Academy for the last year and a half. She is a very great girl and a nice girl and a very good tennis player, and hopefully we will see a lot more of her."

SOUNDBITE (Hindi and English) Sania Mirza, Indian tennis player:

"I, more then others, want to see the Indian team's hockey match. They didn't qualify last time in London, so I am really excited that they have (qualified). And I am personally a huge fan of the Indian hockey team, so I would love to watch them."
