  • Great Britain reached the semi-finals of the Davis Cup after Kyle Edmund beat Serbia's Dusan Lajovic 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7/5) to earn the holders an unassailable 3-1 lead in Belgrade on Sunday (17th July.)

Kyle Edmund beat Serbia's Dusan Lajovic to lead defending champions Great Britain into the semi-finals of the Davis Cup in Belgrade on Sunday.

The 21-year-old was given the responsibility of being Britain's number one player in only his second Davis Cup tie after Wimbledon champion Andy Murray pulled out.

Edmund secured his first win in the competition against Janko Tipsarevic on Friday and, after Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot put Britain 2-1 up on Saturday, found himself in the position of trying to win the tie.

He played superbly throughout until it came time to serve for the match in the third.

Nevertheless he regained his composure to win 6-3, 6-4. 7-6 and ensure Great Britain's title defence will continue in the semi-finals against Argentina.

The victory also extends Britain's winning run in the competition to six ties.

They will face Argentina in September.
