Gimeno-Traver beats Danil Medvedev in Hamburg

  • Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver came from a set down to beat Danil Medvedev in the second round of the German Open on Thursday (July 14th).

    Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver considers clay to be his best surface,so taking on Russian qualifier Daniil Medvedev in his second round match in the German Open should have been a walk in the park.

    But that's not exactly how the match went. Medvedev took the first set 5-7 and a shock looked on the cards.

    The World No.156 fought back to the take the next set 7-6 on a tie break.

    The decider was a close affair and was very similar to the second set, but it was Gimeno-Traver who came out on top in the third set tie break, in a match that lasted more than three hours.

    The Spaniard is looking for his first tournament win of the year and wrapped up the match after converting on his third match point.

    5-7, 7-6, 7-6 the final score - Gimeno-Traver now plays the seventh seed Martin Klizan from Slovakia in the quarter-finals.
