  • Pablo Cuevas is through to the quarter-finals of the German Open in Hamburg after a 6-2, 6-3 win over Thiago Monteiro on Wednesday.

Philipp Kohlschreiber is through to the last eight after coming back from a set down to beat Nicolas Kicker.

After beating wild card Florian Mayer in his opener in Hamburg, Pablo Cuevas was up against Thiago Monteiro.

The 30-year-old Uruguayan proved to be of little threat to the third seeded Cuevas in the first set. Cuevas taking it 6-2 in just 35 minutes.

The winner of two claycourt titles so far this year in Sao Paulo and Rio, Cuevas comfortably disposed of the Brazilian 6-2, 6-3.

He now faces Paul-Henri Mathieu in the quarter-finals after the Frenchman knocked out sixth seed Nicolas Almagro.

Philipp Kohlschreiber found life a little tougher later in the day.

After a three-set victory in the opening round against Carlos Berlocq, another Argentine posed him problems in round two.

World number 144 Nicolas Kicker took the opening set, 6-4.

But after that shock, Kohlschreiber quickly pulled himself together.

The 32-year-old took firm control of the second to take it 6-1.

He wasted little more breath in the third, securing that 6-2 to book his place in the quarter-finals.

He now faces yet another Argentine, Renzo Olivo, in the last eight.
