Fowler- public driving range helped my links golf

  • Emiliano Grillo describes being on the cusp of playing in his first Open Championship as "a dream come true" while Rickie Fowler, Martin Kaymer and Fabian Gomez also give their thoughts ahead of the tournament which gets underway on Thursday (14th July).

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Rickie Fowler

"I love playing over here. Just the fact that you get to hit so many different styles of shot, you have to use your imagination and I feel like where I grew up, on a public driving range, it's basically a flat piece of land and you had to imagine the shots that you're hitting and there wasn't a whole lot of targets or trees or anything. So I learned how to use my imagination there and I get to use it here now in Links golf."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rickie Fowler (on winning the 2015 Scottish Open at Gullane)

"The win at the Scottish Open was nice, (nice) to get one over here on this side of the pond and I've played well in the Open before and had good finishes but to get a win on a Links golf course was special and hopefully it will help me get a win in an Open (Championship) soon."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Martin Kaymer

"Well for me the Open (Championship) is really the true and real game of golf. You can't really plan any day. Every day can play very different. You can play one day the golf course and the other day it can be super easy or very very difficult and at the end of the day, we do play a game and I think that Links golf is perfect proof of that and the British Open is the only Major that we have in Europe and even though I have won two Majors already, it is really the one here, the British Open that I would love to add to my career."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Emiliano Grillo

"Yes it's nice. It's a dream come true. Playing here with the best players in the world is a big opportunity. It's my first Open (Championship) you don't get many first ones so it's nice. It's a nice place. I haven't seen the course yet but it definitely looks really good."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Emiliano Grillo

"Yes. I've played four yeas on the European Tour and two or three times a year we play in Scotland or a Links style golf course and I think I have some experience but in the last year or two I haven't been out here much so it's a matter of getting used to (the conditions) again but it's something (playing on Links courses) that you don't forget."
