Kohli looks ahead to Wet Indies trip

  • India captain Virat Kohli spoke on Monday ahead of his team's departure to the West Indies for a four-match Test series.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Virat Kohli, India captain (on whether he prefers a foreign coach as opposed to an Indian coach):

"See for me it doesn't matter where the coach is from. What matters is how you know how he treats the players and how he makes them comfortable and how much he can provide to the players, these are the three factors that you look for if you are signing a head coach. That's what I believe in. And Anilbhai (Kumble) obviously has all three in abundance. He understands all the players, obviously there is huge respect for him because of what he has done for the country, because of him being a Test captain for the nation and we have all looked up to him. So there is always that respect and he understands that and he makes everyone feel comfortable. So I think there the combination has set in beautifully."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Virat Kohli, India captain (on team's approach to the West Indies tour):

"I know it sounds cliche and pretty boring, all the usual but that's exactly what cricketers think. To be successful, to be consistent, you have to be boring. You know in the way you prepare, the way you have your plans, and I'm sure he can vouch for that....you need to do things repetitively and that's exactly what we think of any game of cricket. It doesn't matter what the opposition is, obviously you assess them, you analyse what they do but at the end of the day you are playing a game of cricket. We respect the game more than anything else. Obviously you can't have disrespect for the opposition, and having respect for the game includes everything. So we want to play good cricket as an Indian cricket team and for us home series, away series, every series the priority is to win. We don't measure or give importance to some tour and don't give importance to other. For us to be a consistent team it is very important we treat every game and every opposition the same way."
