  • Highlights from the second round of the 100th French Open from Le Golf National on Friday (1st July) as Mikko Ilonen, Thongchai Jaidee, Brandon Stone, Jeunghun Wang and Rory McIlroy shared the lead on five under par.

The weather was far from what one would expect in Paris in July, with players forced to deal with cool and blustery conditions during the second round of 100th French Open.

At Le Golf National, Danny Willett needed this putt to par the 9th and have a chance of making the cut. But a bogey meant he ended five over par and missed the cut for a second week running.

Meanwhile, playing from the first hole, Finland's Mikko Ilonen had gone out in 34. He dropped a shot at the 13th but birdied the 15th after his approach shot hit the flag pole.

He ended the day in a share of the lead at five under par.

Alongside him on five under par and a share of the lead are four other players.

Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, Brandon Stone of South Africa and Jeunghun Wang of South Korea all ended the day atop the leaderboard.

Completing the leaders' quintet is Rory McIlroy.

He had a day to remember as this chip at the fifth hole saved his par.

That gave him some momentum and he birdied the 6th and 7th as well as the 9th to be out in 32.

He then continued his form on the back nine - his only dropped shot of the day coming on the 18th.

A round of 66 for McIlroy who will go into Saturday looking to break away from his co-leaders.
