Arthur: "We can get at England batsmen"

Tuesday, June 28 2016 by SNTV
  • On Monday (27th June), captain Misbah-ul-Haq said Pakistan's upcoming Test series against England is a chance to show "we are really a good team on and off the field", and added that he thinks Mohammad Amir "can still be the best bowler in the world".

SOUNDBITE: (English) Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan cricket captain

(Q: Mohammad Amir was on the path to being the best fast bowler in the world, do you think he can still do that?)

"I think the way he has been bowling, he's there. If you look at his bowling speed and swing and control it's there and I think he can still be the best bowler in the world."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mickey Arthur, Pakistan head coach

(Q: Do you see a weakness in the batting line up for England that you can exploit?)

"I do to be honest. I think (Alastair) Cook, (Joe) Root play such a vital role in that set-up and I know that (Jonny) Bairstow has played exceptionally well and you know (Nick) Compton probably out now, who replaces him, James Vince's form I am not sure. I am not sure on James Vince trying to find his way a little bit. If Bairstow comes to five and only plays as a batsman, well there's a lot more pressure when you only play as a batsman, than if you're playing as a (wicket) keeper-batsman. So again I do think if we can make serious inroads with our new ball, which I think we can, we have got the attack to exploit that, we could put their batting line-up under some real pressure. Because the one thing we have is that we have is a world-class spinner Yasir Shah, his skill level is incredible. So there will be no easy period when we bowl. Normally when you say you can see the seamers off, maybe the third and fourth seamers won't present the same type of challenge. For us that pressure is going to be relentless, because our spinner comes into the game."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan cricket captain

(Q: There was so much controversy on the last tour six years ago, is there a sense that Pakistan have to bring back some friends in English cricket?)

"Yeah that's another challenge and I think team did really well after 2010 to just do that all over the world and now is the time that we're here, where it happened. I think we can really prove by playing really good cricket and by the conduct off the field that we can really be a force at international level and that we are really a good team on and off the field. So that's a good chance, a good opportunity for all of us to perform here, not only on the field, but off the field also."
