Hanson and Gatland reflect on Welsh thrashing

  • Reaction after New Zealand crushed Wales 46-6 in the 3rd rugby test on Saturday.

SOUNDBITE (English): Steve Hanson, All Blacks coach:

"The big emphasis for us was the start. I really wanted to improve on the first 15 or 20 minutes from the week before where we made a lot of errors. This week we cut those errors right down and that allowed us to put pressure on them and build momentum and we took that right through the first half, really."

SOUNDBITE (English): Steve Hanson, All Blacks coach:

"It's difficult, isn't it? I think they've played something like 17 test matches and, you know, they go home tomorrow, so maybe some of them were on the plane, I don't know. They'll regroup, they're a good team and they're better than that. And they'll get a decent pre-season, hopefully, and come back and be a force in the Six Nations and then, or before that, I think we will see them go well in the November tests, not sure who they're playing, but they'll regroup and they'll be good. They're a good side."

SOUNDBITE (English): Warren Gatland, Wales coach:

"No, it's pretty disappointing, you know, we thought there were a lot of positives out of the first two tests and I thought we started pretty well tonight. And, you know, we needed to score before half-time, when we had an opportunity, you know, that was pretty important but in fairness to the All Blacks, I thought they were absolutely outstanding. I thought the pace of their back three caused us some problems and some of their collision dominance was pretty good as well. So, you know, we take a lot of lessons from what we've learned from this three tests and, you know, we need to make sure that we apply that the next time we're back together."
