England's batting openers 'remarkable' - Morgan

  • England captain Eoin Morgan spoke after his side's ten-wicket thrashing of Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday (24th March).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eoin Morgan, England captain:

"I thought we did our basics really well. I don't think it swung around or nipped off the seam, in one-day cricket there's always huge challenges when that doesn't happen and I think the other challenge that we always talk about is starving the opposition of runs and building pressure by banging out length and using your bouncer. And today we did that and we built pressure in different ways which resulted in us taking wickets. Which is brilliant, it was sort of a lesson for us this time last year when we played against Australia in particular, they're a really good side at doing that. We sort of picked that up as the series went along, we need to be better at it. Today we did that. I think the chase was absolutely remarkable. I've never experienced anything like that where we were so in control without being reckless. I thought the two boys (Alex Hales and Jason Roy) were outstanding, very imposing and they just played brilliant cricket. Very entertaining. "
