Springboks to 'fight' in Ireland decider - Strauss

Saturday, June 25 2016 by SNTV
  • South Africa and Ireland trained and spoke on Friday (24th June) before they meet on Saturday in the third and final Test in Port Elizabeth - with the series standing at 1-1.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Adriaan Strauss, South Africa captain:

"Oh you know, the first week we were really hurting after that loss at Newlands (first Test defeat to Ireland) and we needed to get over that and we dealt with it and got over it on the Monday. And you know we said the same about the win (second Test). The guys were really happy with the win, we were all very happy with the win but we need to get over that and past that as well. And we did move past that on Monday. Then we were process-driven again. You know, this weekend is a very important one for us. Like any other Test."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Adriaan Strauss, South Africa captain:

"You never go onto the field picturing yourself playing for 20 or 30 (minutes) and thinking that will be enough. There is a lot of momentum shifts in a game, especially in a Test match. And the last 20 minutes in last weekend's game definitely went our way but we need to stay in the fight for 80 minutes and it starts from the first minute. I think last weekend we came out with a bang, in those first couple of minutes we were very good. Then credit to Ireland - they really turned us and the momentum shifted and we just couldn't get going, in the last couple of minutes we bounced back. So it will be an 80-minute fight."
