Murray starts Wimbledon with all-British tie

Saturday, June 25 2016 by SNTV
  • The draw for Wimbledon took place on Friday (24th June) with Novak Djokovic being placed in the same half as Roger Federer.

The Championships is upon us, as the All England Club looked in pristine condition for the start of the Grand Slam.

Friday saw the draw for the men's and women's take place. First up the men's and a Brit to face the reigning Champion....

"First drawn of these will play Novak Djokovic, so it is Novak Djokovic to play no.109 James Ward."

Djokovic will be going for his fourth Wimbledon title.

The Serb could play another Brit in Kyle Edmund in the second round, and then the first possible meeting with a seed would be with Sam Querrey in the third round - the American is 28th seed for SW19.

The 7-time winner of Wimbledon, then learnt his opponent....

"Roger Federer will play no. 91 Guido Pella."

Next out was an all-British tie at the bottom of the draw.

"Number 42 Liam Broady will play Andy Murray."

Murray, the second seed, will relish the opportunity to reach a third Wimbledon final without requiring to beat Djokovic or Federer until a possible meeting in the final.

While over in the women's draw, Serena was given a seemingly friendly opener.

"Serena Williams will play number 126, qualifier / lucky loser."

The tournament will begin on Monday with defending champion Novak Djokovic first on Centre Court up against Britain's James Ward.
