Muller & Cuevas to meet in Nottingham semi-finals

  • Gilles Muller is through to the semi-finals of the Aegon Open in Nottingham after a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alexandr Dolgopolov on Thursday (23rd June).

    While Pablo Cuevas booked himself a first-ever grasscourt semi-final after edging out Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (8) at the Aegon Open on Thursday (23rd June)

    Quarter-finals day at the Aegon Championships in Nottingham saw Alexandr Dolgoplov start off nicely against the big serving Gilles Muller.

    The man from Luxembourg has pedigree though on grass already knocking out Mikhail Youzhny and last time out taking Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to five sets.

    Muller won the first 6-3 and combined a double figure ace count with deft touches at the net.

    The eight seed finishing it of in style.

    6-3, 6-4 and Muller would play the winner of this quarter-final match up between second seed Pablo Cuevas and Marcos Baghdatis.

    Action continued on Thursday afternoon, with an entertaining match between second seed Cuevas and the Cypriot Baghdatis.

    The second seed took the opener 6-4 - but Baghdatis powered back in the second, with both men producing some superb tennis.

    The Cypriot has always been popular with the crowds and he constructed a wonderful point here to delight the Aegon crowd.

    But the spectators here could not propel him to victory.
