O'Neil taking great pride in Irish win

Friday, June 24 2016 by SNTV
  • A happy Martin O'Neill was in jovial mood on Thursday (23rd June) as the Republic of Ireland manager reflected on his team's 1-0 win over Italy at Euro 2016.

SOUNDBITE (English) Martin O'Neill, Republic of Ireland manager (On the late goal that earned a win against Italy):

"I don't think we wanted to go home feeling 'yeah, great performance but should have had a penalty - didn't do, Wes (Hoolahan should of scored - didn't do and you know what in two day's time it is forgotten. So we've come up big at the end of the game and deservedly so. But for that to mean we've qualified and to go through was just immense in that sense. So at least we will take great p
    ide in that."

SOUNDBITE (English) Martin O'Neill, Republic of Ireland manager (On the Thierry Henry handball for France against Ireland in 2009 and if he'd like revenge):

"It's still causing some controversy, but I think maybe perhaps more in France than it is in Ireland. I think that we have decided to forget about it and that's some doing coming from Ireland. I think it will be a talking point obviously, but I don't think it will concern us when we play the game."
