Speaking at a function in London on Wednesday (22nd June), Fernando Alonso hopes McLaren will be fighting for the championship next year.

"Well I think that the positives are that the car is growing well, we are improving, we are definitely moving in the right direction. Still a long way to go for us because we want to win, we want to be world champions and we are not in that position yet. But definitely we are getting closer. So I think it is an important season for us. And next year hopefully for us we can make the last step and fight for the championship."
