New Zealand and Wales look ahead to second Test

Saturday, June 18 2016 by SNTV
  • New Zealand and Wales on Friday (17th June) looked ahead to the second Test in Wellington.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kieran Read, All Blacks Captain:

(on Wales' tactics at the breakdown)

"Probably just a bit of urgency from our point of view. We can't wait for them to attack it. So that comes from our ball-carrier on attack and certainly on defence it's about trying to get them to commit a few more numbers in."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kieran Read, All Blacks Captain:

(on South African referee Jaco Peyper looking after the match in a way the New Zealand players are more familiar with and being proactive during the match)

"I think it's going to be a pretty open game - certainly that's how he likes to referee and that's what we expect. We're going to turn up with plenty of intensity, which is what we have to do this week. We can't really wait for things to happen. We have to go out there and do it ourselves."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kieran Read, All Blacks Captain:

    (on the breakdown)

"We always seem to be pretty clear heading into a game. I think its always going to be down to interpretation. It's a tough rule to get right. I think if you can get quick ball and look after your own destiny in that area then you tend not to have to worry about the referee's decision, so hopefully we can do that."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Neal Jenkins, Welsh Kicking Coach:

(on the conditions at the Westpac Stadium, Wellington)

"Some of us have been here before at the the 2011 World Cup. The conditions are tricky, no doubting that. It's very swirl but it is what it is. It's the same for both sides and it's nice to come out and have a practice here. But, anything can happen tomorrow and the weather could change. It could be a lot worse than today so we'll wait and see and deal with it then."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Neal Jenkins, Welsh Kicking Coach:

(on the All Blacks looking to exploit inexperience with a high ball)

"I'm not too sure about an aerial bombardment, no because that's not the way they play. There will be a lot of kicking, no doubt about that. But, it'll be intelligent because they're smart operators, in terms of their half-backs and outside-backs. It will be a kicking game, but it's something we'll have to deal with."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Neal Jenkins, Welsh Kicking Coach:

(on New Zealand and the Waikato Chiefs exploiting space in Wales' defence)

"A couple of little chips over the top, little grubbers in behind or cross field kicks, it's something we have to work and had to get better with. New Zealand and the Chiefs found some space, so its something we need to focus on and get better at."
