Gatland praises 'brave' Wales

Monday, June 13 2016 by SNTV
  • Warren Gatland and Sam Warburton reflect on New Zealand's 39-21 win over Wales in Auckland on Saturday (11th June).

SOUNDBITE (English) Warren Gatland, Wales coach

"We had to be brave, we had to be bold and we did that and we played some rugby. I thought a couple of the tries that we scored were outstanding, could have scored a couple more and we made a number of line breaks where the All Blacks were seemingly happy to give away a penalty rather than giving us a chance at the breakdown."

SOUNDBITE (English) Sam Warburton, Wales captain

"Yes, it's definitely quicker. Chatting to a lot of the guys, they said they felt pretty good and then when it got to that, sort of, 65 minute mark, that's when you, sort of, go into slightly different territory. Probably when you look at the running metres, we probably wouldn't run metres like that in the Six Nations (tournament), and stuff. So, we try and train at a high intensity but you can't train like that for 80 minutes in the week because otherwise you won't be able to last for the game. So I think you've got to go through those games to experience that to get better."
