Hansen praises All Blacks 'first rate' response

Monday, June 13 2016 by SNTV
  • Steve Hansen and Kieran Read reflect on New Zealand's 39-21 win over Wales in Auckland on Saturday (11th June).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Steve Hansen, All Blacks coach

"When you judge a team the most is when they're under pressure. So we went in at half time behind, a young team - how were we going to react to it? And I think the response we got was, you know, first rate. And they, I think, put a line in the sand: yes, we'll go forward from here, we'll be better for the performance, not doubt about it."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kieran Read, All Blacks captain

"Yes, I think it was different, just the whole build up as well over the last couple of weeks. But, in saying that, once we were out on the field it was an awesome feeling. I think the whole group of leaders learnt a lot today. You know, we'll grow from this performance. Yeah, it was a great feeling. I think the boys, you know, showed some belief and showed that connection that we needed. You know, it was a tight spot out there and what a test match really is about and there'll be some good lessons taken from that."
