England looking to complete whitewash over Sri Lanka

Wednesday, June 08 2016 by SNTV
  • England will be looking to complete a 'whitewash' when they meet Sri Lanka in the third and final Test, starting at Lord's on Thursday (9th June).

England are favourites to win at Lord's - but there is still pressure on one or two of Alastair Cook's side to perform.

None more so than Nick Compton.

Compton will enter his 16th Test, on his home ground, under more pressure than ever to ensure it is not his last.

England's number three admitted he was playing for his Test future, in fact, before the series-sealing victory over Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street.

Scores of nine and then an unbeaten 22 as the hosts cantered to victory by nine wickets leave Compton with an average still hovering vulnerably just above 30 - and those who doubted him will still do so.

He has a chance to bat with a little less pressure though as England have already won the series- but completing a whitewash, something England are nutritiously bad at, will still be a top priority.
