Ramprakash- England still have a lot to play for

  • England will be out to rediscover a ruthless streak as they bid for a 3-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka at Lord's.

SOUNDBITE (English): Mark Ramprakash, England batting coach

(The series has been won but England have this bad habit of not completing the 'whitewash' - is this an incentive in the camp?)

"It is - and I think the players are very much aware of that. I am sure it will be reiterated over the next couple of days. It is something that I think that if you break it down, all the individuals in the team have got things to play for. You know, a Test match occasion at Lord's is a huge occasion. It is the pinnacle of your career, if you like. Certainly one of the highlights. And everyone wants to do well at Lord's. So individually everybody has got a lot to play for and I think that will help collectively as a team."

SOUNDBITE (English): Mark Ramprakash, England batting coach

(What are you expecting from the Sri Lankans?)

"I expect them to continue improving. I thought that they made a really good 'fist of it' (effort) in the second innings there (in the second Test). I think (Dinesh) Chandimal's innings there was exceptional. He played really, really well. And so they are sort of growing in confidence. And they have got some young players that have had a tough baptism really, at Headingley. That is as tough as you will get in Test cricket. And I agree - I think that the pitch will be better here and the conditions more to their liking. So I think that they are growing as a team and they will want to put up a good showing. So I think that is all the more reason why England need to be focused."
