Nordea Masters: Fitzpatrick leads by five in Sweden

Sunday, June 05 2016 by SNTV
  • Matt Fitzpatrick shot a four-under-par 68 on Saturday (4th June) to take a five-stroke lead into the final round of the Nordea Masters in Sweden.

While the weather across much of Europe has been unseasonably cold and grey, the Nordea Masters was bathed in sunshine on Saturday.

Home favourite Henrik Stenson was unable to get into contention and the 15th summed up his round, where despite this approach he three-putted for a bogey.

One European who did make a move on Saturday was Nicholas Colsaerts. The Belgian started the day three off leader Matt Fitzpatrick, yet by the 8th he held a one shot lead over the Englishman.

Colsaerts was unable to follow up a front nine 33 and finished for a 2-under 70 to lie at 10-under.

Local man Alex Norden had one of the rounds of the day. The Swede carding for a 5-under round and tied second with Colsaerts.

And out in front is that man Fitzpatrick.

Despite losing his lead around the turn, the 21-year-old hit back immediately.

Birdies at 10 and then another here at the par 5 13 meant the man from Sheffield begun to open up a lead late into Saturday.

Four birdies on the way home, including consecutive birdies from the 13th to the 15th, saw him card a four-under-par 68 for a total of 15-under.

He leads by five strokes going into Sunday's final round as he seeks his second European Tour title after winning last year's British Masters.
