Roland Garros director vows to get back on track

Tuesday, May 31 2016 by SNTV
  • As rain washed out play at the French Open on Monday (30th May), tournament director Guy Forget expressed frustration at the lack of any covered courts at Roland Garros.

SOUNDBITE (English): Guy Forget, French Open tournament director (on hopes for a roof on Court Philippe Chatrier by 2020):

"We can't be like that for many more years, although we have very good hope that it will be done by 2020. I hope that everything will go on in between now and then so that no one can just stop the process. Because, once again, it is a necessity. And I’m a bit annoyed today, to say the least, although I smile sometimes when I’m with the players. But it’s hard.”

SOUNDBITE (English): Guy Forget, French Open tournament director (on modifying schedule after rain washed out play on Monday):

"Once again we are confident and hopefully we’ll be able to play tomorrow as much as we can. And we’ll speed it up, we’ll start earlier, you’ve seen the schedule (for Tuesday 1st July), we are supposed to start at two (pm), we’ll start at 11 (am). We’ll play on more courts. There will be four show courts tomorrow. So we’ll be adding court one and court two, just to speed up the game and hopefully we’ll be right on time in two days.”
