New Zealand excel at the World Cup regatta

Monday, May 30 2016 by SNTV
  • New Zealand excelled at the World Cup regatta in Lucerne on Sunday (29th May), while Croatia's Sinkovic brothers won yet again in the men's double sculls.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Kim Brennan, Australia:

"Yeah, you definitely focus on what you're doing because everyone's at different stages of their preparation. I think what we have to remember, in Australia we row all year round. Mirka (Knapkova) doesn't row all year round. In her winter, she does other activities so you would always expect that she'll be much better come a world championships, and so you just don't know where people are at. All I can do is keep improving and use this as practice along the way."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mahe Drysdale, New Zealand:

"Yeah, it's early season so you can't read too much into it but you always take the wins. It's a little bit of a mental advantage but over the last two years I've won the World Cups and Ondrej's (Synek) come and won the world champs so I'm very aware that I need to be at my best in Rio and I guess that's the exciting thing. I still feel like I've got a bit of room to improve so it's nice to win this early one."
