  • An emotional Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was forced to retire from his third round match at Roland Garros and Serena Williams battles through.

At Roland Garros on Saturday home favorite Jo-Wifried Tsonga was cruising at 5-2 in the first set when a leg injury meant he had to retire from his match with Latvia's Ernests Gulbis.

Despite the best efforts of his medical team, the two time semi-finalist in Paris had to say goodbye to his home tournament and was in tears as he left the court.

In the Ladies draw, Serena Williams took her first set against Kristina Mladenovic six games to four. In the second set, the young French star, who was facing Williams for the first time, was determined and having saved numerous break points, earned a tie-break, despite Williams having moments of perfection...

After a two our rain delay however, Williams finally won the game 12 points to 10 on her fifth match point.
Williams's next opponent will be 18th seed Elena Svitolina, who beat Ana Ivanovic in straight sets.
