Thiem dispatches Zverev to progress

  • In a battle between two of tennis's rising stars, Dominic Thiem outlasted Alexander Zverev 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the fourth round at Roland Garros on Saturday (28th May). Also into the fourth round is Timea Bacsinszky who eased through with a 6-4, 6-2 win over the unseeded Pauline Parmentier.

    Dominic Thiem completed his second victory over Alexander Zverev in the space of a week, this time in the third round of the French Open on Saturday.

    Zverev made a good start, taking the opening set, before fading away.

    Thiem replied by winning the next three sets to win out 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

    Also through to the fourth round is women's eighth seed Timea Bacsinszky, who completed a fairly comfortable victory over Pauline Parmentier of France.

    Match point was decided courtesy of a successful challenge from Bacsinszky. The Swiss took the match 6-4, 6-2.
