Murray eases past Karlovic into fourth round

  • Andy Murray cruised past Ivo Karlovic to reach the last 16 at Roland Garros. The number two seed, was dominant in recording a 6-1 6-4 7-6 (7-3) win. Elsewhere,fifth seed Kei Nishikori survived a scare against Fernando Verdasco and Richard Gasquet cruised past Nick Kyrgios.

    After two tough five-set battles, Andy Murray rediscovered his form as he beat Ivo Karlovic in straight sets.

    The giant Croat's big serve caused few problems for the world number two who won 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (3) to set up a fourth-round meeting with another big server - either John Isner or Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili.

    Meanwhile, Kei Nishikori came through a gruelling five-set match with Fernando Verdasco to join Murray in the last 16.

    After taking the first two sets 6-3 6-4, Nishikori was pegged back by Verdasco who levelled at two sets all.

    However, the Spaniard could not maintain the momentum as Nishikori, the world No 6, took the final set 6-2.to set up a meeting with Richard Gasquet,
    Gasquet, the local favourite, was too good for Nick Kyrgios. The maverick Australian - who appeared to be suffering from shoulder pains and needed treatment from the trainer in the opening set - was dismissed 6-2 7-6(7) 6-2.

    The Frenchman who has yet to drop a set, was at times on the back foot because of his opponent's dangerous forehand,

    But the 17th seed Kyrgios's 44 unforced errors were enough to see the Frenchman through.
