Jones tips Harrison and Burrell for Test success

Saturday, May 28 2016 by SNTV
  • Northampton forward Teimana Harrison will make his England debut in Sunday's Test against Wales at Twickenham. Inside centre Luther Burrell is back in the starting team for the first time since failing to win a place in former coach Stuart Lancaster's squad for last year's World Cup. Four debutants have been named in Jones' 23-man squad.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eddie Jones, England coach:

"Sunday presents a great opportunity for us to grow the depth of the squad. To bring in four uncapped players after the Grand Slam's a, good thing for the team, good thing for us going forward. There's no better place to make your debut (than) at Twickenham against Wales, which is, one of the traditional rivals of England rugby. So, we're hoping those guys, well not hoping, we know those guys will step up to the plate and do well for us."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eddie Jones, England coach (on Wales naming a strong team for Sunday's game):

"We never expected anything else. It's a proper test match, it's fourth versus fifth in the world, there's ranking points available, (Wales coach) Warren Gatland doesn't like to lose to England, England doesn't like to lose to Wales. So, we've got 80-thousand people that are coming to the game thinking it's a great idea. So it's going to be a wonderful occasion."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eddie Jones, England coach (on debutant Teimana Harrison):

"Came over here as a young kid. (He) Has decided England's going to be his home and his form post Christmas was absolutely outstanding. His ball-carries, his defence, his attitude to the game's been really good. Now he's got the opportunity to carry that forward into a test match."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eddie Jones, England coach (on Luther Burrell):

"Luther's done well. He came in during the Six Nations. He's lost, a fair bit of weight. He's looking much better, trained very sharply and deserves his opportunity and, inside centre's a position (where) we've lost one player, so he's got an opportunity on Sunday again to show us what he's got and then possibly put one foot on the plane (to Australia for England's Summer tour)."
