Venus Williams and Serena Williams both advanced to the third round of the French Open on Thursday (26th May), beating Louisa Chirico and Teliana Pereira respectively. While Timea Bacsinsky beat Eugenie Bouchard.

Serena Williams continued her French Open title defence on Thursday, facing Teliana Pereira in the second round.

The three-time Champion at Roland Garros set the tone early on, leading 4-love.

6-2 Williams took the first, and Pereira was looking well and truly out of the game at 5-1 down in the second.

It is 14 years since Venus Williams reached her one and only French Open final, which she lost to sibling Serena.

On Thursday, Williams senior continued her bid for a maiden singles title at Roland Garros, facing fellow American Louisa Chirico in the second round.

Easing to a 6-2, 6-1 victory .

A semi-finalist at Roland Garros two years ago, Eugenie Bouchard made an early exit from this year's tournament, losing in straight sets to Timea Bacsinszky.

Eighth seed Bacsinszky served for the match at 5-0 in the second, Bouchard did fight back, but in the end Bacsinsky was too strong.
