Professionals 'surprised' by UAE soccer - Jaber

Friday, May 27 2016 by SNTV
  • SNTV spoke to Bani Yas captain Yousef Jaber on Wednesday (25th May) when he spoke about the domination of Al Ain and Al Ahli, plus the surprise that many professionals have when they play i the UAE.

SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Yousef Jaber, Bani Yas captain (on professional players coming to play in the UAE):

"Sometimes the professional players who come to play in the UAE are surprised by the level. Sometimes the local players' level is better than that of a professional player and we may find a professional on the bench. And from here comes the desire to be a professional player in other leagues. But when you have everything in the UAE, the ambitions decrease for professionalism. I hope there will be players representing Emirati football in the league."

SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Yousef Jaber, Bani Yas captain (on the power of Al Ain and Al Ahli):

"The phenomenon of two or three competing teams only in the league is negative. Al Ain and Al Ahli have many replacements, like a second team on the bench. And this is what is missing from the other teams in the league. In Al Ain and Al Ahli, if you missed three or four players you don't notice their absence so much because a strong bench sometimes includes international players."
