Fans & club stature kept me at Newcastle - Benitez

Thursday, May 26 2016 by SNTV
  • Rafael Benitez said on Wednesday (25th May) that he signed a new deal with Newcastle United because of the support the fans had shown him despite relegation from the English Premier League and the assurances he received that he wouldn't have to sell any players he wished to keep.

"To be fair a lot of things, but the first thing was for me the fans, the stature of the club and the future. I have seen all these things together. I said in my press conference I came here (originally) because of that and I could see these things every day, especially the last (match). A lot of positive things here from day one and also my family is in England and I wanted to stay here so everything together means I am really pleased, really happy to be here."

"To be successful we have to do well. That is football and you cannot guarantee things, but if I am here it is because I am convinced that we can go up next season and stay for a long time in the Premier League and even win trophies."
