Tight security ahead of Milan Champions League final

Wednesday, May 25 2016 by SNTV
  • Milan gets ready to host the all-Spanish 2016 UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on Saturday (28th May).

The city of Milan is in full swing preparing to host Saturday's Champions League final.

The San Siro is the setting for the game between Athletic Madrid and Real Madrid.

This will be the fourth time that Europe's elite club final has been held in the Italian city, with the last one being in 2001 when Bayern Munich lifted the trophy.

Outside the stadium, graffiti artists are at work on a giant kilometre-long (0.6 mile) mural, representing the history of football in Italy and showing legendary figures of the game.

One of the graffiti artists known only as Andrea, stated over 100 artists from Italy had contributed:

"With the participation of the association 'Study Arts' brought together more than 100 artists from all over Italy and also some international artists to decorate and embellish some of the areas around the stadium."

While there is much to celebrate within Milan for the final, a heavy police presence will also be in place.

Italian authorities performed an anti-terrorism drill on Wednesday night, which included members of the national police - the Carabinieri - fire-fighters and ambulance staff.

From the air, the authorities will be able to monitor proceedings with drone aircraft.

All everyone wants is a match to remember on the pitch between these bitter rivals of Madrid.
