"In the context of a high level threat, the Interior Ministry will deploy, this year, exceptional means. I can announce that at least 23,000 police officers and Gendarmes will be present on the side of the road to guarantee the security of the Tour de France. We are currently assessing the need for a larger involvement of our security forces."
SOUNDBITE (French) Bernard Cazeneuve, French Interior Minister:
"50 motorcyclists from the Garde Republicaine will continue this year to escort the Tour de France, whilst 12 police officers will accompany the cyclists for the whole duration of the race.
