Brendan Rodgers was presented as the new Celtic manager on Monday (23rd May), saying the club is one of the biggest in the world and certainly not a step down from managing in the English Premier League.
SOUNDBITE (English): Brendan Rodgers, Celtic manager:
"Well, I think when I left I left a really special club at Liverpool. I had a wonderful time there and when I came out of Liverpool I just wanted to have a good rest and come away from the game for a bit, and obviously try to then plot what would be the next move and hopefully going into another big football club. I was fortunate enough to have had opportunities to maybe stay down south and maybe go to the Premier League or go abroad, but whenever Peter (Lawwell) rang me after Ronny (Deila) had announced that he was deciding to leave at the end of the season I thought out of respect I would speak to him and whenever I met with Peter and Dermot (Desmond), they really sold the club to me and obviously then my emotional attachment to the football club is obviously very strong and has been for many years and the more I thought about it, there was a draw for me here. You know people would have talked about maybe the level, but Celtic's one of the biggest clubs in the world and for me to come out of the Premier League to come up to here is certainly not a step down. This is one of the great clubs of the world, it's an institution in its own right so for me to come here, it's a huge honour and a privilege to be able to come and manage Glasgow Celtic."
