McIIroy wins first Irish Open

  • Rory McIlroy shot a three-under-par final round 69 on Sunday (22nd May) to complete a three-stroke, maiden victory in the Irish Open.

All eyes fell on Rory McIIlroy at the Irish Open on Sunday, as the home favourite chased his first success in six months.

And the Norther Irishman gave his fans plenty to cheer with a super second shot at the 16th. He landed a Birdie at that hole before playing another superb shot at the 18th.

McIIlroy had been chasing down Scotland's Russell Knox who held a one shot lead at one point.

However, McIIlroy's classy play at the 16th and 18th put him on the verge of victory, with a simple putt between him and glory.

McIIlroy duly sunk it for an Eagle and his maiden Irish Open victory.

This was McIIlroy's first victory since November, and marked a fine return to form.
