  • Wayne Rooney refused to confirm Louis van Gaal will be at Old Trafford next season. Rooney was speaking after Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in extra time at the135th FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday (May 21).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Wayne Rooney, Manchester United captain:

    (on manager Van Gaal's future):

"I don't want to speak about how Louis Van Gaal has been because he is still our manager. He's still in his job and I think it is unfair after he has led us to win the FA Cup that we speak about him as if he's not here. I think he is a good manager and we're grateful for him helping us win this FA Cup and it's down to him or Ed Woodward to decide what happens."

"Tough game. Obviously (Crystal) Palace did well and made it difficult for us but we kept going. Went a goal down and I think it was important how quick we got the goal back. Then Chris (Smalling) getting sent off (and) we had to dig in. It probably looked like it was going to penalties but Jesse Lingard's come with a fantastic strike and thankfully we've held on and won the game."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Wayne Rooney, Manchester United captain:

"All the players and I think for Manchester United as a club it's an important victory today because we haven't won nothing for the last three years. A lot of players are new to the club so they've had that taste of success so hopefully that kicks them on to want more and we can go on a run now for the next few years."
