  • Reaction from Rory Mcllroy about the Muirfield controversy following the first round of the Irish Open on Thursday (19th May).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Rory McIlroy (On the Muirfield decision not to allow women members)

"I think we are in a day and age that it's not right to host the world's biggest golf tournament in a place that doesn't allow women to be members, hopefully Muirfield will see some sense and we can get it back on the Open rota one day, but there are plenty of others on the Open rota we can go back to and its more of a loss to Muirfield than it is to us."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Rory McIlroy

"To shoot under par in tricky conditions - I felt I controlled my ball well, managed myself very well. Just one mistake, a three putt on 14 but apart from that I felt very much in control."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Rory McIlroy

"Right from last night I was focused on the event and try to do the best I could possibly could, obviously there is a few distractions this week but I am just trying to concentrate on my golf and I have got off to a good start today."
