Twenty-on year-old Italian Giulio Ciccone won Stage 10 of the Giro d'Italia in Sestola on Tuesday (17th May), his first stage win in his first Grand Tour event.
Compatriot Gianluca Brambilla's time in the leader's Pink Jersey is over, but he hands over to Etixx - Quick-Step teammate Bob Jungels.
Following a rest day, the Giro d'Italia re-started with Stage 10, a 134 mile route between Campi Bisenzio and Sestola in the Province of Modena.
There were several attempts to break up the peloton, especially on the ascent of the Pian del Falco, but none were decisive - it was the descent that proved crucial.
Italy's Damiano Cunego of the Nippo - Vini Fantini team, tried to get away, but was caught by compatriot Giulio Ciccone (Bardiani CSF).
Ciccone's Bardiani CSF teammate Stefano Pirazzi joined the pair and then had a coming together with Cunego on an awkward right hand bend.
Ciccone took full advantage of the incident and raced away at the front.
Russia's Ivan Rovny (Tinkoff Team) tried to bridge the gap from the chasing pack,.
Ciccone came home to win the stage in 5 hours 44 minutes and 32 seconds, a remarkable effort considering that the 21 year-old Italian is in his debut year as a professional and was taking part in his first 'Grand Tour' event.
Rovny finished second, 42 seconds back, with Colombia's Darwin Atapuma (BMC Racing Team), Nathan Brown of the Unitred States (Cannondale Pro Cycling) and Cunego coming in more than a minute behind the winner.
Back down the field, Gianluca Brambilla sacrificed his Pink Jersey to become a 'super domestique' for Bob Jungels and ensured that his teammate would inherit the leader's mantle.
Jungels now holds a 26-second lead at the top of the General Classification.
Wednesday's eleventh stage will take the field on a similar medium-mountain stage between Modena and Asolo (212 km / 132 mi).
