World record on the cards - Peaty

  • Adam Peaty believes a new world record time will probably be needed to win the 100 metre breaststroke gold at this summers Olympic games in Rio.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Adam Peaty (Q: Do you think that you'll have to break another world record in the 100m to win Olympic gold?)

"Probably I think. It's going to be a good race, it's going to be a fast race, probably one of the fastest in history, but yeah an Olympic gold you're going to have to do a ballsy swim anyway. The world record is 57.9 (seconds), I am still half a second ahead of anybody else in the world. It's looking good and hopefully I can improve that, but we'll see, we just don't know."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Adam Peaty (Q: As a multiple world champion and a world record holder, how do you deal with all the expectation on you for the Olympics?)

"Yeah I mean I am double world, well triple world champ now, and obviously got the world records to go with every one. Yeah it's a confidence, people will maybe be looking at me and saying how do I get as fast as him, so it's definitely more of a confidence that a hindrance and I don't really see that as a negative pressure. It's a positive pressure, where it is pushing me from behind instead of when most people would see it as stop there. If you can understand the psychology behind it then I am ready to race in Rio really."
