Kenyan javelin world champion Julius Yego has called for urgent action and said that the Rio Olympic Games wouldn't be complete withough Kenya, in the wake of the East African nation's anti-doping agency being declared "non-compliant" with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code.
SOUNDBITE (English) Julius Yego, Kenyan javelin world champion:
"You know, we don't understand. Like for me, I surely don't understand what's happening and we are waiting to get full information from WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). We want to know the full reasons why they are saying that we are non-compliant. I think one of the bosses of WADA, I think the CEO said that the legislature made up some amendments in that bill. You know, it's unfortunate if it happened and so accountability has to be met on it because why should they have done the amendments and yet the one they gave WADA is not the one they put in the House of Parliament."
SOUNDBITE (English) Julius Yego, Kenyan javelin world champion:
"It's not in my mind that maybe Kenya will miss the Olympics. I don't even want to imagine that the Olympics is done without Kenya. We hope all will be met. Even then they will have to give us very valid reasons why we shouldn't compete in the Olympics. And of course that bill went through, so maybe if the amendments which were made and then maybe parliament again needs to amend them and put what was in place before and of course everything will be okay. I don't want to imagine that Kenya.... the Olympics will be without Kenya because that Olympics will be useless. It will not be a complete Olympics."
