'No real margin for error' - Allardyce

Friday, May 06 2016 by SNTV
  • Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce said on Thursday (5th May) that he was hoping for a "shock result" against Chelsea on Saturday (7th May), as his relegation-threatened side continue their battle for English Premier League survival.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sam Allardyce, Sunderland manager (on the battle for EPL survival):

"Massive week, we are all aware of the huge responsibility that we have to try and achieve more points than Newcastle and Norwich (also threatened with relegation). Three games to do it in and no real margin for error. It starts with Chelsea in the hope we can hit our top form and make sure we try and win the game if we can, because if we don't and either Norwich or Newcastle win, the pressure increases dramatically. You always wonder if your players will hold up under that pressure. A big, big game for all three clubs come the weekend."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sam Allardyce, Sunderland manager (on EPL champions Leicester City):

"I think it's an outstanding piece of history, they should make a film of it, because I don't think we'll see it happen again in our lifetime. I think they have, without a doubt, not just on the field but behind the scenes, all come together for one particular season that generally, with a team like that, wouldn't last. We all have our golden spells, but they managed to sustain it from the start to the finish, from Claudio (Ranieri, Leicester manager) all the way down to all his staff and all the players."
