  • Andy Murray and Milos Raonic both recorded three-set wins in the second round of the Madrid Open on Tuesday (3rd May).

Radek Stephanek probably wasn't the opponent Andy Murray would have picked to open up the defence of his Madrid Open title on Tuesday.

Despite Stephanek entering real twilight years of his career at the age of 37, Murray was made to work for the opening set.

The World No.2 would take it on a tiebreak, however quickly lost control of the match with an early Stephanek break in the second.

The former World No.8, who was a qualifier for this clay court event in Madrid, looked to attack the net at every opportunity.

Winning 75% of his 47 points from the net.

A pumped up Stephanek winning the second 6-3.

Yet Murray showed his class against a tiring player, winning through 7-6, 3-6, 6-1.

Milos Raonic also advanced, against Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The Ukranian did force the match into three sets, with deft touches such as these.

Raonic hit 17 aces on his way to victory and a third round meeting with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
