  • Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova recovered from losing the first nine games of her second round against France's Caroline Garcia at the Madrid Open to win 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday (3rd May). Eighth seed Carla Suarez Navarro was a straight sets 6-3, 6-2 winner over Sabine Lisicki. Sixth seed Simona Halep easily dispatched Karin Knapp

    France's Caroline Garcia won the opening nine games, but still managed to lose her Madrid Open second round to Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday.

    Cibulkova appeared dead and buried when trailing 6-0, 3-0, 40-15, but mounted a hugely impressive comeback and will take on world number 26 Anatasia Pavlyunchenkova in the third round.

    Carla Suarez Navarro trailed 2-0 in the opening set to her German opponent Sabine Lisicki but came storming back to win 6-3, 6-2).

    She will play Samantha Stosur in the third round, the Australian progressed due to Lucie Safarova withdrawing because of illness.

    Sixth seed Simon Halep easily dispatched Karin Knapp 6-1, 6-1.

    The Romanian was broken in the opening game, but that was a blip as she coasted to victory, 6-1, 6-1, in an hour and two minutes.
