Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova recovered from losing the first nine games of her second round against France's Caroline Garcia at the Madrid Open to win 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday (3rd May). France's Caroline Garcia won the opening nine games, but still managed to lose her Madrid Open second round to Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday.
Cibulkova appeared dead and buried when trailing 6-0, 3-0, 40-15, but mounted a hugely impressive comeback and will take on world number 26 Anatasia Pavlyunchenkova in the third round.
Carla Suarez Navarro trailed 2-0 in the opening set to her German opponent Sabine Lisicki but came storming back to win 6-3, 6-2).
She will play Samantha Stosur in the third round, the Australian progressed due to Lucie Safarova withdrawing because of illness.
Sixth seed Simon Halep easily dispatched Karin Knapp 6-1, 6-1.
The Romanian was broken in the opening game, but that was a blip as she coasted to victory, 6-1, 6-1, in an hour and two minutes.
