  • Mark Selby won the World Championship for the second time after beating China's Ding Junhui 18-14 in the final in Sheffield on Monday (2nd May).

Mark Selby begun day two of the Snooker World Championship Final with a 10-8 lead over Ding Junhui of China.

Selby, looking to complete a double act for the city of Leicester, was the underdog at the start of play yet extended his lead.

Ding conceding the 25th frame here potting the white.

Selby made it 16-11 on the black.

Ding did fight back - runs of 73, 70 and the third 103 of the match revived Ding's prospects - with the final closing to 16-14.

The tournament has never had an Asian champion, with Ireland's Ken Doherty, Australia's Neil Robertson and Canadian Cliff Thorburn the only overseas title winners of the 1977-onward Crucible era.

Selby recovered the next frame, giving his wife Vicki a knowing point.

He battled through one scrappy frame with an iron will and then clinched victory rather more stylishly with a 74 break.

Ding accepting defeat as Selby records his second championship title - becoming only the sixth man in history to do so.

Selby too not missing out on the opportunity to show his Leicester allegiances alongside the trophy on a famous one-two night for Leicester City & Mark Selby.
