Flores: Staying in the Premier League "really emotional"

Sunday, May 01 2016 by SNTV
  • Reaction after Watford came from behind to beat 10-man Aston Villa 3-2 in the English Premier League on Saturday

SOUNDBITE: (English) Quique Sanchez Flores, Watford manager:

"It's important because mathematically we are in the Premier League, so it's important for Watford Club, it's amazing. The way we found out is always really emotional - just in the last moment when we are always looking for this moment. I think we deserved to win this match. From the beginning we tried to put out a very offensive team who have control of the match. We conceded two silly goals and we needed to work very hard to recuperate the score."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Quique Sanchez Flores, Watford FC manager (on Troy Deeney's two late goals):

"Yes, finally it's what we need. The match against 11, against 10, it was in our sights. Today it's very clear, we need to keep our strikers in the box. The balls in the last 15 minutes, maybe we put in more balls than the rest of the match. I think we had 65 per cent of the possession, we shoot much more than Aston Villa, we have the control, but we need to fight a lot against these kinds of things - we need to remove the kind of goals we concede when we are playing well, when we have the control."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eric Black, Aston Villa FC caretaker manager (on sending off of Aly Cissokho with 15 minutes remaining):

"Yes, it's harsh in some regards. I thought the efforts of the players today were outstanding. We changed the shape a little bit and we only had a couple of days to work on it. And they stuck to it, they worked tirelessly, and I thought there was a bit of desire, a bit of hunger. Then the sending off, I think, changed the whole context of the game."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eric Black, Aston Villa FC caretaker manager:

"It's a fantastic football club with fantastic supporters and everthing that surrounds it. If we can just get one little step, a small step as it is, back to getting the supporters on side, and I think today they deserved credit, the players. Yes, they've been criticised, justifiably in a lot of reasons but today, not."
