Sunday, May 01 2016 by SNTV
  • Egypt's Nour El Sherbini became the youngest ever women's world squash champion on Saturday (30th April), after the 20-year-old came back from two games down to beat world number one Laura Massaro.

A repeat of the 2013 Women's World Squash Championships in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (30th April). England's world no1 Laura Massaro and Egypt's Nour El Sherbini met in the final.

This time it was 20-year-old El Sherbini who was crowned champion - winning in 5: 6-11, 4-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-8.

El Sherbini - only seeded 5th in this tournament - knocked out Malaysian legend and eight-time champion Nicol David in the quarter-finals and she fought back to win from 2-0 down.

The 20-year-old became the youngest woman ever to win the biggest title in squash - and the first Egyptian woman to win a World Championship.

Not only that, El Sherbini's win on Saturday means she will replace Massaro at the top of the world rankings when the updated list is released in May.
