  • Nicolas Almagro, Top seed Gilles Simon and Pablo Carreno Busta all won in the second round of the Millennium Estoril Open in Portugal on Thursday (28th April).

    Following a first round bye, top seed Gilles Simon made his first appearance at the Millennium Estoril Open in Portugal.

    Fellow Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu was his opponent, and after an hour and 47 minutes it was all over - Simon closed out a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory and in the end it was a comfortable win.

    The world number 18 will next face Spanish number eight seed Pablo Carreno Busta for a place in the semi-finals.

    Nicolas Almagro of Spain rallied to defeat fourth-seed and local favourite Joao Sousa 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 serving up 13 aces

    The 30-year-old winner levelled his 2016 match record at 9 and 9 by reaching his second quarter-final of the season.
